McLaren claims Max Verstappen has an ‘enviable consistency’ in race starts after the Dutchman defeated Lando Norris at Emilia Romagna GP

Max Verstappen won the Emilia Romagna GP despite facing multiple challenger issues. The Dutchman, however, came extremely close to losing out the spot to Lando Norris towards the end. Norris also committed some minuscule errors that cost him the race win. Hence, the woking-based constructor was praiseful of the 26-year-old’s impressive drive.

McLaren team principal, Andrea Stella reckoned that Max Verstappen had an ‘enviable consistency’ during race starts especially against Lando Norris. The Dutchman started the Imola race extremely well from the pole position and held the lead coming into turn 1. However, a little bit of everything, like a good power unit acceleration, but also good tire preparation before the race ensured a promising start for the world champion.

It has an enviable consistency of performance at the start, rarely misses the first position at the first corner. In this there is a little ’ of everything, a good power unit in the acceleration phase, but also an excellent job in terms of tire preparation before the start.  Andrea Stella as reported by formulapassion.it.

Stella recalled that during the race start, Lando Norris had a better reaction to the lights going out. However, Verstappen managed to guarantee the first position coming into turn 1 of the Imola circuit. The Dutchman handled the clean air in the first stint extremely well. Additionally, the team principal claimed that such small differences mattered during races and cost McLaren the Emilia-Romagna GP towards the end.

In Imola, for example, Norris had better reflections when the traffic lights went out, but then Verstappen managed to guarantee the first position and the clean air for the first stint. With such similar values between the top stables every detail counts and we know it well because an error in track operations with Qualifying Plates cost us dearly. Andrea Stella reckoned.

Andrea Stella hopes for Red Bull to be ‘in trouble’ at the Monaco GP

Red Bull has showcased a highly consistent performance except for the Italian weekend in Imola. However, the team anticipates Max Verstappen to face multiple issues around the Monaco circuit. The McLaren team principal was hopeful that such a situation would further Woking’s chances of scoring a win.

Stella claimed that he hoped Red Bull’s prediction of a difficult weekend ‘came true’. Additionally, the team principal highlighted that Monaco’s characteristics require specific pieces to bring maximum load to the chassis. Hence, the 53-year-old anticipated McLaren’s new update to not be a problem for the team’s performance around the tightly and twisty circuit.

Red Bull thinks they will be in trouble? I hope they are accurate in their predictions. It is a track that makes history in itself for which specific pieces are brought to have the maximum load. Our update took something away from us in fast corners, improving performance in medium and low speed curves, but I don't think it can be a factor in Monaco. Andrea Stella concluded.

McLaren and Ferrari have come extremely close to replicating Red Bull’s dominant performance in this season. Hence, Milton Keynes will have to continue performing at the pinnacle to ensure maintaining the lead. Max Verstappen isn’t completely untouched in terms of points as he could be looking at tough competition towards the end of the season.
